Cardiovascular Disease Training - Management

Overview

This full day blended learning course covers the function of the Cardiovascular System and management of the diseases associated, risk factors and the tools used to assess risk factors such as Qrisk. Also covered are the many Cardiovascular diseases such as Cerebrovascular Accident, Myocardial Infarction, Anuerysm, Brain Hemorrhage amongst others. Following on from this an overview of the medications administered for control of these conditions, Quality Outcome Frameworks and lifestyle changes are also covered. Importantly Change Management theory, motivational interviewing techniques and in depth Primary Care Management around Heart Failure, Angina, Vascular Dementia and many other Cardiovascular Conditions. This course can also be run over two 1/2 days if preferred.

Why Is It Important?

Over the last few decades great strides have been taken in reducing premature deaths due to Cardiovascular Disease in the United Kingdom, however, the problem still remains a significant cause of disability, death and health inequalities. The ageing population also presents challenges for Health and Social Care, since there are increasing numbers of people living with long term conditions. This is particularly relevant as the rate of Cardiovascular Disease increases with age.

Aimed At

Healthcare professionals within the community and/or hospital based. GP surgeries to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms.

Teaching Methods

A mixture of teaching methods will be used to encourage engagement and ensure adequate understanding and learning. This will include presentations, discussions, quizzes, breakout groups. It will be an interactive session with participatory learning.
