Session Aim

The aim of our End of Life Care training course is to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide compassionate care for patients who are nearing the end of their lives. According to the World Health Organisation, an estimated 40 million people
worldwide require palliative care, and only a fraction of them receive it.

END OF LIFE CARE SYRINGE DRIVER VERIFICATION OF DEATH training

Attendees will gain an overview of the National Guidance that surrounds Palliative and End of Life care, including the differences between the two. You will learn to recognise when a person is close to death, identify signs and symptoms, and manage them holistically. Additionally, you will understand the importance of good communication and its impact on healthcare, recognising how it positively impacts the individual and their legacy with families. With this training, you will be
better equipped to provide high-quality, compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their families, and help to close the gap in access to palliative care.

Verification of Death for Registered Practitioners

This 3 hour, CPD accredited training course will be delivered by a Clinical Nurse Educator with
first hand clinical experience, drawing on their own experience and knowledge.

Aimed At

This training is for healthcare professionals seeking to improve their Verification of Death skills and knowledge.

Session Aim

According to a systematic review of 28 studies published in the Journal of Palliative Medicine, errors in VOD occur in approximately 0.4% to 4% of cases, and up to 33% of deaths are not verified in a timely manner. This highlights the importance of appropriate training and education for healthcare professionals who may be responsible for verifying death.

Amidst the COVID-19 emergency, caring for the deceased and their families has posed exceptional challenges for society and the health service, resulting in rapid revisions to existing systems. This training course aims to equip learners with a comprehensive understanding of the current legislation in the UK pertaining to Verification of Expected Death by Registered Nurses. Additionally, it aims to raise awareness of the professional responsibilities related to confirming death in community settings.
